Character Design - Hope Jensen
By Miyu

In the world of Assassins Creed. Mentors are ones who play a vital role in an assassin's life providing knowledge, wisdom, preparing them for the future ahead in their life. With mentors in the brotherhood having a significant impact on their disciple and the world around them. If any mentor in Assassins Creed fulfilled their role with tragedy, passing on regret to their disciple, it would be Hope Jensen. Shay Cormac’s mentor and former ally.
Born in 1732, New York City. Hope was adopted by a German couple who immigrated to the colonies for a new life. As they named her Hope, after their desired new beginnings. Eventually joining the Brotherhood after she had a faithful encounter with Achilles Davenport. Pickpocketing him which led to her recruitment in the Brotherhood. Later on becoming a master assassin and mentor to Shay Cormac.
She was designed by Daniel Atanasov in 2014. One of the lead concept artists for AC Rouge as her design shows her wearing the typical assassins hood with stays (blouse) with a long layered skirt that reaches her ankles. With volume in the back giving the illusion of bustle pads, topping it off with a red bow, her footwear being boots with spatterdashes (boot covers). Even with small details that stand out such as her front ribbons resembling roses, and the gold accents that line her outfit.

Her colour pallet consists of purple, brown, blue, white, gold, and red. Representing her character well with its symbolic meaning. Her wealthy status is shown with mainly her outfit having purple. Purple being a colour associated with royalty. As purple was an expensive colour throughout up until the 19th century. Along with the gold accents as it was a symbol of wealth. Her royalty is represented with her being the leader of New York's organized crime, acting as a ruler. Which perfectly represents her title as Master Assassin.
The blues on the front of her outfit can represent strength along with the accents of red, the brown also represents her wisdom as she was also highly educated by tutors in her past. And the white represents the fakeness of her role as being a "hero" and more as an antagonist to Shay’s story.
But there’s always been debate about her design along with Christopher Gist in the story. With the fanbase saying that she’s more Victorian along with Gist looking more like a cowboy from the wild west. Even with her design as of now, it perfectly captures her character, through her colours and clothes.
