Who Killed Kennedy?
Written by Declan
The death of J.F. Kennedy is one of the worst tragedies to hit America. It happened in a time when America strived to be the greatest and be the first to land on the moon. But it's also a moment that has sparked a lot of conspiracy theories around who actually killed the president and why.
This is also around the time another conspiracy emerged: the moon landing was a hoax. In my previous article, we learned that Assassin's Creed embraces these theories and adds its own interpretation. For example, instead of the moon landing being faked, the moon landing was a cover for ulterior motives. So, how did they interpret the conspiracy theory of who killed Kennedy?
In this article, I will answer that question and reveal the truth of who killed Kennedy in the Assassin's Creed universe.

John F. Kennedy
Who really was J F Kennedy? John F. Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States, being sworn in as president in 1961 until his unfortunate death in 1963.
Not much in the lore covers his early years, which is a shame, as Kennedy was a pawn for the Templars, but we don't know if he was willing or a puppet being controlled from the shadows. What we do know is that during the Great Space Race, Kennedy reached out to the Soviet Union before he was sworn in. To strike up a friendly deal that would see America and the Soviet Union embark on a joint venture to the moon. And this action may have proven beneficial for all of humanity, but it unfortunately angered the Templars, who were worried that if the Soviet Union were to land on the moon alongside America, then all chances of acquiring the piece of Eden could be lost.

And thus a plan was formed for the Templars to orchestrate the assassination of Kennedy. The Templar plan would become one of the most complex plans in their history with more pawns than a chessboard. And it would involve none other than the Assassin Brotherhood, who would carry out the assassination. But why? The answer is simple and stems from a goal that has defined both factions for years: to acquire a Piece of Eden. More specifically, an Apple of Eden. One that had been secretly passed down to Kennedy from the last president of America, Dwight D. Eisenhower, another pawn in the Templars game, yet one which will be explored at a later date.
But in true Assassin's Creed fashion, nothing is true, and everything is permitted. The Assassin who led the attempt was William King Harvey, a double agent hidden in the Brotherhood's ranks. He used his influence to manipulate Brotherhood member Boris Pash into using his extremist Bloodstone unit to execute the plan.

William Greer's role was the most important and the most complex, as he was not only trained by Abstergo but also ordered to steal the apple for them. But he was also loyal to the Bloodstone unit, who were using the Templars' own plot to assassinate Kennedy as a way to secure the apple for the Assassins.
The plan worked. The Apple was in Greer's hands, but what happened to it? Before we take a look, let's take a quick refresher to unpick all the pawns in this elaborate scheme. The first pawn is William Harvey, a Templar double agent surreptitiously working inside the Brotherhood ranks. His goal was to secure the Apple for the Templars.
The second pawn was Boris Pash, an Assassin extremist who led the Bloodstone unit. Their goal was to steal the apple for the Assassins and disrupt the Templars' plans. The third was Templar sleeper agent, Lee Harvey Oswald, who would take the fall for the assassination, keeping both the Assassins' and Templars' involvement a secret.

Bloodstone Unit
And finally we have Greer, a loyal bloodstone unit member, who as part of his secret service job was recruited by Abstergo to lead the retrieval of the apple. Unbeknown to the templars, Greer's involvement was a cover, his true goal was to steal the apple for the Assassins. As I alluded to near the beginning this plan well and truly did have more pawns than a chessboard, but even with all these pawns and complex plot.
And finally, we have Greer, a loyal bloodstone unit member, who, as part of his secret service job, was recruited by Abstergo to lead the retrieval of the apple. Unbeknownst to the Templars, Greer's involvement was a cover; his true goal was to steal the apple for the Assassins. As I alluded to near the beginning, this plan well and truly did have more pawns than a chessboard, but even with all these pawns and a complex plot, Assassin's Creed managed to recreate and interpret the complex mystery of the Kennedy conspiracy.
So what happened to the apple of Eden? During Greer's escape, he was intercepted by fellow bloodstone member Alekseï Gavrani. Alekseï was worried the Pash had gone too far, and this attack was not what the Assassins stood for.
Greer tried and failed to convince him that this was all done by a Templar agent, Lee Harvey Oswald. Upon failing to do so, a fight broke out, one that Greer would lose. And now the apple was in Alekseïs's hands, who then delivered it safely and securely to William Harvey, clueless to the fact that William was affiliated with the Templar order.
Through the mass confusion and convoluted scheming, the Templars had completed their goal. Kennedy was gone, and a second Apple of Eden was now in their possession. Their goal to be the first and only ones to land on the moon to retrieve a third Apple was also to be realised, when Templar agent Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn into the presidency later that day.
And thus the mystery of who killed Kennedy was answered, but it wasn't a simple and straightforward plan. More of a complex plot involving both warning factions, and the Assassin may be the ones who killed Kennedy for their own goal. But it was the Templars who were pulling the strings, using the Assassins' own corruption against them.
